Akpafu Traditional Birth Attendants Women Association exists to improve the health situation of pregnant women, women and children in the project area and contribute to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality.

The main goals of the association

The main activities of our association are selection and training of untrained but practicing traditional birth attendants and this includes;

  • Training of  traditional birth attendants in pre- and post natal care as well as sexual and reproductive health
  •  Equipping traditional birth attendants with health care kits
  • Supervising and monitoring the impact of the training on the services provided by the traditional birth attendants during the time frame of the project.
  • To reduce high risk pregnancies through family planning education and services delivery


Target population

The direct target group of the association are about 30.000 women and 25.000 children who receive better health services from the traditional birth attendants as well 175 communities who will be better informed about sexual and reproductive health and sexual transmitted and infectious diseases. The indirect target group of the project are the Traditional Birth Attendants who are trained and equipped during the projects period.
